What is a semi-tone and tone?

In music, a semitone (also called a half step or half tone) is the smallest interval between two notes. It is the difference between two adjacent keys on a piano, or between a white key and a black key.

A tone (or whole tone or whole step) is an interval consisting of two semitones. It is the difference between two notes that are separated by one white key on a piano, or between two black keys.

Here are some examples of semitones and tones in musical notation:

* C to C♯ is a semitone.

* C to D is a tone.

* E♭ to E is a semitone.

* F♯ to G is a tone.

* A♭ to A is a semitone.

* B to C is a tone.

Semitones and tones are important building blocks of music. They are used to create melodies, harmonies, and chords. The arrangement of semitones and tones in a musical scale determines the scale's unique sound.
