Step 1: Tuning
Make sure your guitar is tuned to standard tuning (E, A, D, G, B, E).
Step 2: Finger placement
Place your fingers on the fretboard as follows:
* Middle finger on the 3rd fret of the low E string (E root note)
* Index finger on the 1st fret of the B string (B note)
* Pinky finger on the 8th fret of the G string (high E note)
Step 3: Strumming
* Use a downstroke to strum all six strings.
* Repeat this pattern until you feel comfortable with the finger placement and strumming.
Step 4: Adding the C# note
Once you are comfortable with the basic strumming pattern, you can add the C# note by placing your ring finger on the 4th fret of the A string.
* Strum all six strings using a downstroke.
* Lift your fingers off the fretboard and repeat the strumming pattern.
* This will create the melody of the song.
Step 5: Practice
Continue to practice the strumming pattern and finger placement until you can play the song smoothly.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble strumming all six strings at once, try starting with your thumb and alternate picking with your index and middle fingers. You can also try using a thinner pick if your fingers are too big.
Have fun!
Nothing Else Matters is a beautiful and rewarding song to play on guitar. With a little practice, you will be able to play it like a pro.
