1. Place the violin on the left shoulder. The scroll of the violin should rest against the base of the neck, and the body of the violin should be angled downwards.
2. Hold the violin with your left hand. Your thumb should rest on the neck of the violin, just above the fingerboard, and your fingers should be curled under the strings.
3. Hold the bow with your right hand. Your thumb should rest on the frog of the bow, and your fingers should be curled around the stick of the bow.
4. Adjust your posture. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart and your back should be straight. Your arms should be relaxed and your elbows should be slightly bent.
Tips for Holding the Violin
- The violin should not rest on your left collarbone.
- The scroll of the violin should not be pointing over your ear.
- Your left thumb should not be wrapped around the neck of the violin.
- Your right thumb should not be resting on the hair of the bow.
- Your elbows should not be sticking out to the sides.
