How to Hook Up a PA System for a Band

No matter what instrument you play in the band, it is important for every member to be able to correctly hook up the public-address system. Whether you are playing a live gig or just jamming in the garage, the PA system is the most important part of your music. The PA basically takes the vocals and instruments and plays their audio through loudspeakers.

Things You'll Need

  • Mixing board
  • Power amplifier
  • 2 speakers
  • 2 speaker cables
  • 3 microphone cables

Instructions

    • 1

      Hook the power amplifier and mixing board to a surge protector.

    • 2

      Connect one microphone cable from the left "XLR" output of the mixing board to the left "XLR" input of the power amplifier.

      Connect the second microphone cable from the right "XLR" output of the mixing board to the right "XLR" input of the power amplifier.

      Connect one speaker cable from the left speaker output to the left speaker input.

      Connect the second speaker cable from the right speaker output to the right speaker input.

      Connect the third microphone cable to the first channel of the mixing board. Connect the other end of the microphone cable to a microphone.

    • 7

      Turn on the mixing board.

    • 8

      Turn on the power amplifier.
