How to Play F Minor on the Guitar

Although F minor is one chord, there a number of different ways in which you can voice that chord on the guitar. This enables you to vary the sound slightly, even when using the same chord.

Instructions

      Place your first finger, that is your index finger, over the first fret of the G, B and high E string. Place your third finger, your ring finger, on the third fret of the D string. Strum only the four string you are holding down; this is the first voicing of F minor.

      Bar your first finger across the entire first fret of your guitar. Place your third finger on the third fret of the A string and your little finger on the third fret of the D string. Strum all six strings.

      Bar your first finger across the A, D, G, B and high E strings on the eighth fret. Put your second finger on the ninth fret of the A string. Place your third finger on the 10th fret of the D string, and your Fourth finger on the10th fret of the G string. Strum all strings apart from the low E.

      Place your first finger on the third fret of the D string, your fourth finger on the fourth fret of the high E string, your third finger on the fifth fret of the G string, and your fourth finger on the sixth fret of the B string. Strum only those strings you are holding down.
