A music festival is a multiple-day musical event that often follows a central theme. A festival is often held at a large outdoor amphitheater with several smaller stages and indoor venues. Multiple musicians in a variety of genres perform at the festival. The event is usually held annually, or at an interval of several months. Although most music festivals require a ticket to visit the main stage, many of the supporting or unofficial performances are free of charge. These performances occur at nearby smaller stages or inside a club or bar.
A piano bar is a lounge, bar or club that contains a stage or specific area for a professional pianist. The musician plays songs from the piano or electric keyboard on stage. Entry into the piano bar is free, as the pianist receives the majority of his money through tips. Some piano bars have special dueling nights, where two pianists perform humorous and lively versions of popular songs commonly known or requested by the audience.
Romantic restaurants are specifically tailored to couples. The restaurant uses mood lighting, private seating areas and elegantly-prepared food and drink to create the atmosphere. On certain nights, the restaurant may also have a live band perform, enhancing the mood of the dining experience. The music reflects the culture of the restaurant. For example; an Italian restaurant usually features a trio of violinists performing traditional Italian songs.
Open Mic Night is a special night common at popular bars, nightclubs and restaurants. The night allows local acts, or anyone in the audience, to perform original music. Open Mic Night is usually run to encourage a large group of people to visit the establishment on typically slower weeknights. Participants in the Open Mic Night may receive prizes from the establishment for their participation or for a good performance.
