Who created the first radio?

The Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi is widely credited with inventing the first radio. Marconi's breakthrough came in 1895 when he successfully transmitted and received radio waves over a distance of about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) using a spark-gap transmitter and a coherer receiver.
