Who invented program music?

The concept of program music has existed for centuries, but the term was first used by Franz Liszt in the 19th century. Liszt believed that music should be able to express emotions and tell stories, and he wrote several pieces of program music, such as his symphonic poems Les Préludes and Totentanz.
