Some record players feature a reverse feature, but it's not common. However, if you're careful, you can rotate the record to be heard backwards without causing any scratches. Of course, in order to do this, you must have a record that features a backwards message and a decent record player. For example, if you have The Beatles' "White Album," you can listen to the song "Revolution 9" backwards. Other songs from popular vinyl albums include "Darling Nikki" from Prince's "Purple Rain" and Led Zeppelins' "Stairway to Heaven" from the "Led Zeppelin IV" album. Of course, you can also look for backwards messages on any record, including modern ones. When rotating the records backwards, make sure that you don't move the record too fast or put pressure and stress on the needle.
There are many audio recording programs that allow you to upload songs and reverse them. This is a beneficial tip if you want to reverse a small section of a song or to save the reversed song to your computer in MP3 or WAV format. For example, download and install the Audacity program (see Resources below). Open a new project on the application and then click on the "File" option from the top of the screen. Click on the "Open" button and select the song you want to reverse from your hard drive. If you want to only reverse a portion of the song, scroll over the part you want reversed so that it's highlighted. If you want to reverse the whole song, you must highlight all of the song. Click on the "Effect" option from the top of the screen and then click on the "Reverse" option. You can now press the play button and hear the song in reverse. Save the song by clicking on the "File" option and then click on the "Export" option. Choose to convert the project to an MP3 and save it to a folder on your desktop.
Go to the TalkBackwards.com website to be able to upload a song and then hear it in reverse (see References below). This is the simplest and quickest method for hearing a song in reverse; however, there is no way for you to save the reversed version of the song. Click on the "Choose File" option and then click on the "Send File" option. You then need to enter your email address, and a link to hear the song backwards will be quickly sent to your email.
Go to the Reverse Speech website to find a list of popular backwards messages from songs. Find the portion of the song you want to hear and then click on the file button to hear the reversed audio. Click on the floppy disk icon to save the reversed track to your computer. Also, on the website you can find more information about reverse speech.
