DJ Satomi Biography

DJ Satomi is an Italian-born disc jockey and producer who is famous for his house music singles, particularly in Europe. His most well-known remixes include "Waves," "With You," and "Castle in the Sky." He lives and works in Rome.
  1. Early Career

    • DJ Satomi began as a disc jockey at the age of 15, playing anywhere he could in his home city of Rome. During his early years, Satomi was known to spin at such clubs as Alien Disco, Piper and New Open Gate. In 1996, Satomi was discovered by famed European house music duo and producers Marvin & Andrea Prezioso, known in the industry simply as "Prezioso." They helped him to record his first album, "Simon Templar - Electricity," which was released in 1997.

    Collaborations

    • Satomi worked exclusively as a disc jockey until 2000, when he began working in his own home studio as a producer. He recorded and produced his own second album, and then went to college for four years.

In 2004, Satomi met with Joe Borgoni and Valentina Dante, who helped him build his own professional recording studio. The three of them formed the group Supasonic Team. Over the next several years, Satomi worked with the music labels Dancework and BMG and collaborated with renowned producer Luca Piazzon (also known as B-1). He remixed several internationally known artists, including Marcela Morelo.

    Singles and Albums

    • In 2003, Satomi began working with the well-known Italian record label Ipnotika Records, with which he released his first hit single, "Castle in The Sky." The song topped the charts across Europe and became a number-one hit in Spain and Italy. It was remixed and included in several compilations of European house music. Since then, his singles "Waves" and "Nuclear Sun" have topped European charts.

DJ Satomi released dozens of popular singles with Ipnotika. While his music tends to be popular in the dance clubs of Europe, his singles are widely available via Internet music download programs. In May of 2009, he released a "Greatest Hits" CD.

    The Holly Dolly Project

    • In 2006, DJ Satomi collaborated with DJ Pure Dust and several other renowned European DJs and Kontor Records to work on the "Holly Dolly" (or "Pretty Donkey Girl") project, for which they remixed a popular sing from a children's television program to create several different tracks. The album, "Dolly's Song (Ieva's Polka)," sold more than a quarter million copies worldwide within its first year.

    Ongoing Work

    • In the years since the "Holly Dolly" project, DJ Satomi has worked as a producer and sound engineer, collaborating with hip hop, reggae, dance hall and club musicians. He has also mixed and recorded several of his own tracks and has been known to make appearances at clubs throughout Italy.
