How to Promote a Rock Concert

Is there a local rock band you would love to see come out from the underground and into the light? Are you trying to launch a career in concert promotion? Starting small and building loyalty with small local bands can help you build a reputation as a concert promoter. Here are tips to help you promote a rock concert.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a venue for the event. Give yourself several months of planning time to properly promote the concert and allow the band to get ready.

    • 2

Prepare flyers or posters using the band's design, or find a local artist to design a poster for you. Include a testimonial on the poster if the band is unknown.

    • 3

Round up volunteers to post flyers at local stores, post offices, bars, coffee houses or restaurants, as well as the ever-useful utility poles. Make sure they ask for permission before posting.

    • 4

Send a press release to all local newspapers, radio and TV stations several weeks before the event. Include the date of the event, the time, place, ticket price, where to buy the tickets, concert sponsors, and a contact phone number.

    • 5

Work with the band to develop promo spots for the radio. After dropping off the promo information and a copy of the band's CD, follow up with a phone call and arrange an interview for the band with the radio station if they're interested. Give them several tickets to the concert to give away on the air, as well as a few tickets for the station.

Distribute information about the rock concert using online bulletin boards. Link to the band's website if they have one. Use the website for promotional ideas, such as a free gift or t-shirt to the first 100 persons to buy a ticket.
