DJ Tiesto was born Tijs Michiel Verwest in Breda, Netherlands, on January 17, 1969. At an early age, he developed an interest in music. By his early teens, he was performing as a DJ at several clubs and school events.
As his career began to take off, he focused heavily on the electronic styles of acid house and new beat. Soon, he developed his music to include more elements of trance, ultimately becoming a progressive trance artist.
DJ Tiesto is known for his work as a philanthropist. In addition to his performing at a number of fundraisers, he was named the official worldwide ambassador of the Dance4Life Foundation. With this position, he works to promote awareness about HIV and AIDS.
Before 2006, DJ Tiesta was known for his wild relationship with model and beauty queen Monique Spronk. The couple separated, and he met Stacey Blokzijl. Despite a public engagement, their marriage was ultimately called off in 2008.
As of 2009, Tiesta has released four full-length albums: "In My Memory," "Just Be," "Parade of the Athletes" and "Elements of Life." He has also done two remix records and a number of DVD releases of his concerts.
