The Big Bopper was J.P. Richardson, born in Sabine Pass, Texas, in 1930. He was a disc jockey and singer who gained popularity in the 1950s with his hit song "Chantilly Lace." The Big Bopper died in a plane crash in 1959 along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
