Megadeth is considered one of the "big four" of thrash metal, along with Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. The band has released 15 studio albums, four live albums, two compilation albums, and two EPs. Megadeth has sold over 50 million copies of their albums worldwide.
The band's most successful albums are Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? (1986), Rust in Peace (1990), and Countdown to Extinction (1992). These albums all debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and were certified platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Megadeth has been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards, winning two for "Best Metal Performance" in 1990 and 1991. The band has also won numerous other awards, including a Brit Award for "Best International Band" in 1993 and a Kerrang! Award for "Best Live Band" in 2002.
Megadeth is still active and continues to tour and record. The band's most recent album, Dystopia, was released in 2016.
