What Genre Is Alkaline Trio?

Alkaline Trio is a three-piece Chicago-based band. They are generally considered to be a part of the alternative punk or punk genre, however some will argue that they are pop punk.

    • Alkaline Trio was founded in 1996. Over the years their line up has changed, however lead vocalist and guitarist, Matt Skibba is the remaining original member. As of 2010 the band includes Derek Grant on drums and Dan Andriano on bass and vocals, as well as Skibba singing lead vocals and playing guitar.

    Releases and Labels

    • As of 2010, Alkaline Trio has released seven full-length albums, two compilation records and three EPs. Their debut full-length record, "Goddamnit" was released in 1998. "This Addiction" was released in 2010. The band has been on several record labels including Asian Man Records, Vagrant, Epic and most recently Epitaph Records. Alkaline Trio also has their own label, Heart and Skull.

    Influences and Tours

    • Alkaline Trio have been noted for having a variety of musical influences including Social Distortion, Joy Division, The Cure and Ani DiFranco. The band has toured with several bands including Coheed and Cambria, Rise Against and Flogging Molly. They are regulars on the Vans Warped Tour.
