How to Find Record Labels That Accept EPKs

You've finished and uploaded your band's first EPK (electronic press kit), and the you're pretty sure it's the greatest thing ever. Your electronic press kit includes streaming audio clips of the best songs in your catalog, your latest music video, band photos, a couple of positive reviews and a snappy bio. You've heard that music festivals like CMJ Music Marathon and the New Jersey Folk Festival listen to EPK submissions, but what you really want to do is send it to some labels. Two common ways to find record labels that accept EPKs are cold-calling and using Sonicbids, an EPK submission site where record labels and music festivals list opportunities.

Instructions

  1. Sonicbids

    • 1

Go to the Sonicbids website (see Resources) and click "Find Gigs."

    • 2

Select "Record Labels/Distribution" from the "A& R/Publicity/Licensing" subsection of the "Select a category" drop-down menu. Select your musical genre from the "Select a genre" drop-down menu, and click "Go." Sonicbids will return a list of results, called gigs.

    • 3

Scan through the list of gigs looking for any labeled as "Roster Consideration," "Roster Expansion," or "Music Distribution." Click one and read the details for how to submit your EPK.

    • 4

Browse to the websites of labels that release music in your genre of choice.

    • 5

Look for a demo or EPK submission policy. If you find one, read it thoroughly and follow the directions for submitting your EPK. If the label hasn't posted an official policy, move on to Step 3.

    • 6

Contact the label via their contact form, or the email address or phone number listed on their website. Ask if they accept EPK submissions, and to whom they should be addressed.
