How to Write an Ad for Musicians Wanted

Musicians-wanted ads have the potential for opening musical doors and opportunities -- and also have the potential to cause grief and aggravation. The key is to write a short and professional ad that accurately and unambiguously describes what you are searching for. The ad should also lay down general guidelines and stipulations about who should respond. Ads are a great resource tool for musicians if you follow some general guidelines.

Instructions

    • 1

Write a brief description of your musical interests or project. If you are searching for musicians to form a band, identify yourself, describe the type of musicians sought and give a brief description of the musical genre. For example: "Keyboard player searching for guitarist, bass guitarist, drummer and vocalist to form a 1960s-style soul band." If you are advertising your services, present a truthful description such as: "Guitarist with 15 years' experience and professional gear seeking blues-rock band."

    • 2

Establish clear guidelines and stipulations that describe what you are interested in and what you are not interested in. Consider such things as "must have vehicle," "must have professional experience and equipment," and "only serious inquires." Other things to consider may include an age preference if you are forming a teenage band, or a gender preference if you are forming an all-girl band.

    • 3

Include your contact information in the ad. Give your name (first name is fine), telephone number and email address.

    • 4

Double check everything before submitting the ad. Re-read the description and make sure it accurately describes what you are looking for. Look at the guidelines and stipulations to ensure that nothing has been left out. Finally, make sure all the contact information is correct.
