On March 22, 2013, My Chemical Romance announced via their website that they were breaking up. No official reason was given, but the band members had hinted at the possibility of a break-up in previous interviews.
In a statement, the band said:
> "After 12 years, countless shows, and four albums, we have decided that it is time to move on. This is not the end. It's a new beginning."
The band's final concert was on March 23, 2013, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Since the break-up, the band members have pursued various solo projects. Gerard Way released a solo album, "Hesitant Alien," in 2014. Mikey Way and Ray Toro formed a new band, Electric Century. Frank Iero released two solo albums, "Stomachaches" in 2014 and "Parachutes" in 2016.
In 2019, the band announced that they would be reuniting for a series of shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo. The reunion tour was a success and the band has been performing sporadically ever since.
In addition to their music, My Chemical Romance is also known for their unique style of dress and their elaborate live shows. The band's music and image have influenced a generation of fans and they remain one of the most popular rock bands of all time.
