Research A&R executives that specialize in your genre of music. Although many A&R scouts specialize in all types of music, it can help to focus on those who have a track record of pursuing and signing acts within your genre, whether it is pop, R&B, country, rock 'n roll, dance, folk or hip hop.
Look for directories of A&R contact information. Go online and search for an updated directory that specializes in addresses and other contact information for music industry professionals. These types of directories are available both for free and also can be purchased as downloads.
Browse the listings for officers to whom you would like to send your music. Specifically look for names you have found in your research, as well as for names that may be new to you.
Put together a press kit. Apart from solely hearing your music, A&R officers want to know about the act, as well. Assemble a physical press kit and also make sure to have an online press kit (you can use websites such as Sonicbids, MySpace and Purevolume for these purposes).
Send out your music. You can send your music either physically (in an envelope to a mailing address) or as an email with a link to your demo MP3s and EPK.
