Francis Albert van Alstyne (December 1, 1842 – October 2, 1925) was an American concert pianist, composer, songwriter, actor, and poet. He was born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, and studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He began his career as a concert pianist, but later turned to composing and songwriting. He wrote over 2,000 songs, including "My Sweetheart's the Man in the Moon", "In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree", and "The Flower of My Heart". He also wrote the music for several Broadway musicals, including "The Belle of New York" (1897) and "The Girl from Paris" (1901). He died in New York City.
