Styles was born in Wandsworth, London, England on 18 January 1990. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and started his first band, The Caezars, while still at school. After graduating from high school, he studied English literature at Oxford University, where he met his future bandmates Justin Young, Freddie Cowan and Pete Robertson.
The Vaccines formed in 2010 and quickly gained a following for their energetic live shows and catchy, guitar-driven songs. Their debut album, What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?, was released in 2011 and reached number four on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and spawned the hit singles "Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)," "Post-Breakup Sex" and "Norgaard."
The Vaccines' second album, Come of Age, was released in 2012 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The album was also certified gold by the BPI and produced the hit singles "Teenage Icon," "I Always Knew" and "No Hope."
The Vaccines' third album, English Graffiti, was released in 2015 and reached number five on the UK Albums Chart. The album was not as commercially successful as the band's previous two albums, but it received positive reviews from critics.
The Vaccines' fourth album, Combat Sports, was released in 2018 and reached number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was a return to form for the band and received positive reviews from critics.
In addition to his work with The Vaccines, Styles has also released two solo albums, Des Styles (2016) and Therapy (2019). He has also collaborated with other artists, such as The Maccabees, The Coral and Slow Club.
