Maynard James Keenan, the frontman of both Tool and A Perfect Circle, has denied the claim that he sold his soul to the devil. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said, "I don't know where that rumor started. I've never sold my soul to the devil. I don't even believe in the devil."

The song "10,000 Days" from Tool's album of the same name does contain some dark and disturbing imagery. The lyrics could be interpreted as a metaphor for selling one's soul to the devil. However, Keenan has said that the song is not about that. He said, "The song is about time. It's about how time flies. It's about how we all have to come to terms with the fact that we're all going to die. It's not about selling my soul to the devil."
