When was Blu-ray disc invented?

The Blu-ray Disc format was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), which was established in February 2002. The BDA includes a wide range of companies from the consumer electronics, film, television, and computing industries. The first Blu-ray Disc players and discs were released in Japan in April 2003, and in the United States and Europe in June 2006.
