How to Win an Emmy

Winning an Emmy Award is going to take lots of effort on your part. You're going to need an agent, acting classes and plenty of luck. You're going to have to work long hours on sets, be able to learn scripts quickly and do it all while climbing the ladder to success. Hopefully, someday, you can be the star of a television show and win an Emmy Award.

Instructions

    • 1

Move to either New York City or Hollywood, California. Since these are where most television shows are produced, this is the best option for you to become successful. Become a waiter and read "Daily Variety" to find auditions. Get head shots made once you've saved up enough money to pay for them. Go to auditions for television shows or commercials; whatever gets your foot in the door.

    • 2

Get an agent so that you can go on bigger auditions. Take acting classes in between working and going on auditions. Learn your craft while waiting for your big break.

    • 3

Make every opportunity count. Play anything from a corpse on a medical show to someone in a coma in a soap opera. You're gaining experience and showing the bigwigs in the television industry that you are someone worth remembering.

    • 4

Work your way up to becoming a supporting cast member on a popular night time show or soap opera.

    • 5

Be kind to the press and happily give interviews where you talk about how much you love your fans and want to work towards world peace. Date co-stars and go to award shows. Get photographed in gorgeous clothes with gorgeous people. Act the part of a star.

    • 6

Become a star of your own prime-time show, or become a lead actor on a soap opera. Do a made-for-TV movie where you play the part of someone who is mentally ill or dying. Work hard to be the best in the business at whatever you do. If you cry easily, become famous for that, and if you're good at comedy, keep them laughing.

    • 7

Act surprised when you receive your nomination for an Emmy Award. Become a member of the "Academy of Television Arts and Sciences" so you can vote for yourself. Take out full-page advertisements in trade journals so you can lobby for votes, and then act surprised when you win. Don't forget to bring a laundry list of people to thank.
