How to Put News on Your Website

Website news feeds, also known as RSS or Rich Site Summaries, are made to allow a reader to subscribe to the content on a website via a RSS reader. You can also put these feeds on your website. All you need is the URL of the RSS feed. Then you will need to put it in a code generator to put a feed on you web page. Different code generators have different options but are generally similar. You can also get news widgets to add to your site. These are small snippets of code that the website provides for you to use their feed.

Instructions

  1. Getting the Code for an RSS Feed

    • 1

Go to one of the free RSS feed generators on the Internet. Many have both free and paid options that take out any advertisements. If you are planning to use a news widget instead, skip down to the next section.

    • 2

Sign up for the service. You will need to provide a name, email address and your website. The service will then send you an email and ask you to confirm that you want to sign up. Once you confirm by clicking on the link provided in the email, you will receive an email with a user name and password. Log in to the site to get to the code generator form.

    • 3

Paste the RSS feed URL into the generator form. Choose which options you would like, such as size, colors and speeds. Click on "Submit."

    • 4

Select and copy the code provided by clicking on “Select All” and Ctrl+C on your keyboard.

    Using the Code

    • 5

Open your text editor and open your website in the text editor.

    • 6

Paste the code into your page using Ctrl+V on your keyboard. While the code can go anywhere on the page you want, it must be put between the "body" tags. So the code can be pasted after the <body> and before the </body> tags.

    • 7

Save your file by clicking on “File,” then “Save.”
