What happened to Amy on the young and restless?

On "The Young and The Restless," Amy is presumed to have died during a car accident that occured in April of 2008. While details about the crash were not shown on screen, it was established that Amy was fatally injured in the incident, leaving behind her parents, Brad and Ashley Carlton.
