Instructions

    • 1

Register your screenplay with the Writer's Guild of America immediately. No reputable production company will even look at your screenplay if it has not been registered, as this opens them up to potential liability if they purchase a similar screenplay.

    • 2

Submit your screenplay to the Academy for the Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting. This competition is designed for new writers and offers $30,000 to those who receive the fellowship. Even if you are not awarded a fellowship, having a top 30 finish will get you in the door with production companies.

    • 3

Send your screenplay out to various agencies. Some agencies will only accept hard copies, while others, such as Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope only accept online screenplays. Most agencies will not accept unsolicited screenplays; therefore, send the agency a query giving a basic overview of your screenplay prior to sending a full copy of the screenplay.
