Describe the action that is occurring on screen using word processing software. Include character speaking styles and reactions to the conversation. Specify each character's physical location within the scene as well, and whether they are speaking cell phones or landlines. This information will help establish how the conversation will take place, and whether it is rushed, private, open or relaxed.
Type the telephone conversation as regular dialogue, if the character on the other end cannot be seen or heard. Center the characters name in the middle of the page and return once, then include the dialogue that is spoken by the character on screen. Place any concise action in parenthesis below the dialogue. Press return once again to enter continuing dialogue.
Specify character voiceovers for character who are heard and not seen. Enter the name of the character on the other end of the telephone conversation, as you would normal dialogue. Press the space bar on the keyboard once, then in parenthesis enter V.O. for "voiceover." Return once, then enter the character dialogue below the characters name.
Key in the word "Intercut" in the master scene heading to indicate that both characters are seen and heard. The master scene heading is used to describe each character's settings. Enter "Intercut---Telephone Conversation," then type the dialogue as usual between two characters. Center the character names and return once, then enter the dialogue for each.
Write the scene to include master scene headings, action and dialogue separately for each character. Enter the master scene headings, and press the enter key twice to type the action that is occurring in the scene. Return twice again, and enter the character's name, then dialogue below it. Include concise character movements in parenthesis below the dialogue to describe facial and physical expressions.
