Born on June 9, 1976, in Mumbai (then Bombay), Amisha Patel received her high school education at the Cathedral and John Connon High School in Mumbai and her college degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts. After her college graduation, she began to act in plays and do some modeling work.
Patel's first movie, "Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai" (2000), became the top-grossing Indian movie of 2000, and it made her an instant star. Her next movie, "Badri" (2000), was also successful. Patel's third movie, "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha," became India's top-grossing film of 2001.
Patel's monumental success was followed by a string of box-office bombs between 2002 and 2006. Patel did experience a respite, though, with "Humraaz," a movie that was inspired by the 1998 Michael Douglas-starring thriller "A Perfect Murder."
By the end of 2006, Patel had won great critical praise for playing a transgressed wife in "Ankahee." She also got additional boosts with the moderate box office success of the romantic comedy "Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd." and the critical success of "Bhool Bhulaiyaa," both released in 2007.
Patel is also a singer, performing in concerts across India, and occasionally in the United States and Canada. She has also participated in a number of humanitarian efforts in India.
Several Indian media outlets have perennially listed Amisha Patel as one of Bollywood's most famous and most beautiful actresses. She has made appearances in a number of talk shows and talent contests in India.
