The Average Salary of an Actor

Although one actor's salary has nothing to do with another, there are several factors to consider when embarking upon acting gigs. Factors such as geographic location, years of acting experience or gender play very important roles in the average salary of an actor.
  1. Location

    • Although the average actor's salary as of 2010 is $62,000 according to Simply Hired, not every acting job will be profitable, and geographic location has everything to do with this. The website PayScale.com states that the top two states where actors earn the highest salaries are New York, with a salary range of $24,417 to $90,000, and California, with a salary range of $39,305 to $82,231. After calculating bonuses, commission and profit sharing into the average salary of an actor, the average salary range is anywhere from $24,027 to $85,643.

    Experience

    • The more experience an actor has means the higher the average salary will be. PayScale.com states that on average, those actors with 10 to 19 years of experience earn the highest salaries. For example, compared with an actor with 5 to 9 years of experience and an average salary range of $24,099 to $65,526, the more seasoned actor stands to make an average salary range of $23,399 to $206,353.

    Gender

    • According to PayScale.com, male actors make higher salaries compared with female actresses. The average salary of male actors ranges from $29,477 to $88,437 compared with the average female salary, which ranges from $23,226 to $40,695.
