How to Attend a Reality TV Show Casting Call

Casting directors of reality TV shows are looking for people who don't think before they speak, says Scott Salyers, supervising cast producer for Entertainment Partners. Many reality TV shows require you to send in a video of yourself and a synopsis of why you should be a star on the program. Other productions will do a general casting call, which members of the public are invited to attend. At a general casting call, you may be lined up with hundreds of others who are also trying for chances at becoming reality TV stars.

      Check TV network websites for announcements of reality TV casting calls in your area.

      Research the shows that are having casting calls in your area, and choose one you would like to try out for.

      Attend the casting call wearing whatever type of clothes would be appropriate for the show. For example, if the show is "Survivor," wear beach clothes so the casting directors will get a better idea of how you look in a swimsuit.

      Be prepared to wait in a line for a very long time. Casting calls can have people camped out for days to see a casting director. Bring water and food.

      Be yourself when you see the casting director. Casting directors look for your true personality, not who you are pretending to be.

      Bring a headshot and a resume if you have one. While casting calls are open to the public, it will help the casting director to know whether you are an aspiring actor or not. The cast's familiarity with set etiquette and standards helps the production move along smoothly.
