How to Get Noticed By Reality TV Show Producers

Reality TV, a craze that rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s, makes it possible for almost anyone to get his five minutes of fame. The label "reality" is mildly misguiding, as many of the personalities on reality shows are, in fact, actors. So the process by which you get noticed by reality producers is similar to the auditioning and casting process regular actors go through. The numerous types of reality shows on network, cable and online afford many opportunities for exposure.

Instructions

    • 1

Shoot a video profile of yourself on camera. This is a simple audition tape that is sometimes requested by reality TV show producers. Be yourself on the video. Don't try to "act" even if you are an actor.

    • 2

Find auditions for reality TV shows. Register as a member with companies that list reality auditions on their websites such as Backstage, Reality TV World and Auditions TV. Reality TV shows are produced across the United States. It's not necessary to live in Los Angeles or New York as it is when you act in scripted TV shows.

    • 3

Attend a reality TV show audition. Present yourself as an interesting, engaging and, most of all, entertaining person. Like scripted shows, reality TV is based on character interaction.

    • 4

Perform at the audition if asked to do so. Reality producers often cast for a "look" and will immediately know whether you are right for their show or not. Do exactly as you are instructed while auditioning. For example: A game show, or show based on competition, might require leadership skills or the ability to work well alongside others. A personality-based reality show might require you to be outlandish, crude or willing to perform stunts.
