What is a Hollywood Finish?

Hollywood finish: A highly polished and often glossy finish that looks like it was done in a Hollywood studio. It is usually applied to fine furniture, cabinetry, and other high-end woodworking projects.

To create a Hollywood finish, the wood is first sanded to a very smooth surface, then multiple layers of a clear finish (usually lacquer or polyurethane) are applied, with each layer being sanded between coats. Finally, the finish is buffed to a high gloss.
