The film begins with Rosa (Lucy Fry), a transgender girl, starting her new school. She quickly becomes friends with Benny (Hunter Page-Lochard), a cisgender boy who is also new to the school. The two of them quickly develop feelings for each other, but Rosa is hesitant to act on her feelings because she is afraid of rejection.
Meanwhile, Rosa's parents are struggling to come to terms with their daughter's transition. Her mother, Carol (Alison Whyte), is supportive, but her father, John (Richard Roxburgh), is struggling to accept Rosa's new identity.
As Rosa and Benny's relationship grows, they face a number of challenges, including prejudice from their peers and discrimination from their families. However, they are determined to be together, and they eventually find a way to overcome their obstacles.
