Why did dally pony and johnny sneak into the movies in outsiders?

In the novel "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny do not sneak into the movies. Rather, they attend the movie theater during the daytime, as a scheduled activity organized by their friend Cherry Valance.
