How to Sell an Idea to Hollywood

A good idea can be a gold mine if you sell it to Hollywood. Producers are always looking for fresh concepts to appease their worldwide audience hungry for more entertainment. Every year, millions of aspiring entrepreneurs send out their ideas in hopes of making it big, but only a few succeed. Don't give up, because your idea may just hook Hollywood.

Instructions

    • 1

Come up with a creative idea. Look around, and see what's funny, unusual or outrageous. Everyone has a story, and somebody has to come up with the next hit. It might as well be you!

    • 2

Summarize your idea into a three-sentence statement, called a pitch. You have only a few seconds of a Hollywood mogul's time, and it will most likely be via the Internet, rather than in person. If you get past this, you'll have plenty of time to expand your idea, hopefully over long, expensive lunches.

    • 3

Read trade publications, where you'll find industry people to contact with your idea. Find these on the Internet or at your library.

    • 4

Remember you're trying to sell an idea, not a screenplay or television script. Someone else can do the writing. Just concentrate on making the idea as perfect as possible before sending it to Hollywood.

    • 5

Keep good records. Whether it's an email, letter, text or phone conversation, you need to carefully document everything. Be detailed, with names and dates.

    • 6

Hire an entertainment attorney if Hollywood offers you a deal. Make sure you are paid for your rights as the creative producer. If you're offered a one-time deal, rather than ongoing payments, check this out with an entertainment attorney, also.
