How to Make Your Own Yearbook DVD

DVDs are a great medium to share your favorite pictures and movies with your friends and family. Yearbooks are known for the same type of experience, shared memories and photos to go back to and laugh at as you get older. Combining these two into one make the yearbook DVD easily distributed for everyone to see and enjoy.

  • Software for creating DVDs (examples: Nero, blaze media pro, roxio)
  • Scanner
  • Computer with DVD burner

Instructions

      Gather the files you are going to use for your yearbook. Examples would be pictures from a digital camera or printed photos, videos, letters, awards, and signed notes.

      Transfer the pictures and videos from your digital camera to your computer. Following the manufacturer's instructions, use the USB cable to connect your camera to the computer.

      Open the "My Computer" folder on your desktop by double clicking it or find it in your "Start" menu and click it.

      Locate the drive that represents your Camera. This will be listed by a letter and also should say mass storage. It might also display the brand name of your camera. Double click the drive.

      Find the video and picture files you would like to use in your movie. Press the "Ctrl" key and select the files by clicking the left button of the mouse on each file.

      Right click your mouse and select "Copy".

      Exit the folder and return to the "My computer" folder display.

      Locate the hard drive folder, normally is indicated by the letter "C". Double click the folder to open it. Find the "My Documents" folder and double click it. Go to "File" and select "New Folder". Rename the folder to "Yearbook DVD" to easily find your information. Double click the new folder to open it.

      Right click your mouse and select "Paste". This will place all the files that were selected off the camera onto the hard drive of your computer.

      Close the folder and return to the desktop. Double click the application on your desktop or find the application through the "Start" menu that you will use to create your movie. Most programs have a similar format for how to insert files to create the DVD.

      Inside the program, press "File" and "New" to begin a new movie. Then press "Insert" and then "From file". This will bring up a box that will allow you to "Browse" for your files from your computer. Go to the "Yearbook DVD" folder to locate the files you copied into it. Select the files and press "Open" for them to be imported into your new movie project.

      Take your printed photos, letters, awards and signed notes to your scanner. One by one, place them on the scanner bed. Open your scanner application on your computer's desktop.

      Click "Scan." It should ask if the materials are color, black and white, or gray scale. Select "Color" and press "Next". It should then prompt for a place to save the file and a name for it. Type in the name and select your "Yearbook DVD" folder as the location to save the file. Then press "Next". It will then scan in the picture.

      Press "Finish" once it shows the scanning has been completed and look at the result. Determine if it included everything and that you like it. Once satisfied, move on to the next photo, letter, award, or note and continue until all documents have been completed and saved.

      Go back to your movie making program. Press "Insert" and then "From File". This will bring up a box that will allow you to "Browse" for your files from your computer. Go to the "Yearbook DVD" folder to locate your files you saved the scanned images to. Select the files and press "Open" for them to be imported into your new movie project.

      Arrange all the photos, movies, letters, awards, and notes into the order of your choice. With this being a yearbook, it will be a large amount of pictures and details, so be careful while editing all the information and check it twice. Add menu pages to separate the different classes and subjects.

      Go to "File" and press "Save as". Create a name for your movie and select where you would like it to be saved to, such as your "Yearbook DVD" folder and press "save". You can save at any point in making the movie to make sure you do not lose anything or are at a stopping point.

      Insert a blank DVD into your computer's DVD burner once the project is completed.

      Click the "Burn" button on your program. A box will pop up and allow you to select the burner. Press the "Continue" button and the computer will then begin to burn your movie onto the DVD.

      Label your DVD and give as a gift to any of your classmates, friends, and family to share.
