Is there a movie based on the soldier who quit?

The 2016 movie Hacksaw Ridge is based on the true story of Desmond Doss, an American soldier who refused to carry a weapon during World War II. Doss was a Seventh-day Adventist who believed that killing was wrong. Despite his beliefs, he still wanted to serve his country, so he joined the Army as a medic.

During the Battle of Okinawa, Doss's unit was pinned down by Japanese fire. Doss refused to take cover, and instead ran out into the open to help the wounded. He made multiple trips back and forth, often under heavy fire, to save the lives of over 75 soldiers.

Doss's actions earned him the Medal of Honor, the highest award for valor in the United States military. He is the only conscientious objector to ever receive the Medal of Honor.

Hacksaw Ridge tells the story of Doss's life and his heroic actions during the Battle of Okinawa. The movie stars Andrew Garfield as Doss and was directed by Mel Gibson.
