Set up your Super 8mm film projector the same way you do when you normally project your films. Set up a projector screen on one side of the room and the actual projector on the other. Thread your 8mm film through the projector the same way you do under normal circumstances. Begin to project the film onto the screen, making sure that the focus is accurate and that it is framed correctly, taking up the entire projector screen.
Place your digital camera on a tripod or other flat surface and aim it directly at your projector screen. Try and get the camera as close to the projector as you can, at the same height and the same distance away from the screen. Turn off the automatic focus (if applicable) for your digital camera.
Turn off the lights in your room.
Press "Record" on your digital camera. At the same time, begin to project your Super 8mm film. The digital camera will record the film being projected. Because Super 8mm only records video and not sound, you don't have to worry about being quiet during this process. When the 8mm film is finished, stop the projector and turn off the digital camera. The homemade telecine process is complete.
