Who is Bose ikard?

Bose Icard (_nee_ Bozie Caveness, _born_ June 15, 1939) is a writer, businesswoman and politician from the U.S. state of Florida. A fifth generation Floridian, Icard was born and raised in Mayo. She married into a prominent Lafayette County family and was appointed to fill the unexpired term of her father-in-law, Claude “Red” Icard in the Florida House of Representatives in 1976. Later, she served in the Florida Senate, representing the old District 1. She held the distinction of being the first freshman Republican woman to ascend to leadership, becoming Senate Minority Leader in 1991.

Following re-districting, she was elected to Florida’s 3rd Congressional District in 1992, in a race against incumbent Congressman Tillie Fowler, making Icard the first woman elected to Congress from North Central Florida. She was re-elected to two additional terms before being defeated by Democrat Corrine Brown in 1996.

After losing her election for re-election, she returned to law and politics. She opened a law practice and served as a lobbyist in the Florida Legislature. In 2010, she authored a book about the history of Lafayette County. She is currently semi-retired and still practicing law.
