The purpose of firing Crucible by Arthur Miller?

The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller as an allegory of McCarthyism, the political atmosphere of the United States in the 1950s. Many critics see The Crucible as a parallel to the McCarthy hearings: like the Salem witch trials, the hearings were characterized by false accusations and guilt by association. The hearings damaged the reputations of many people and made them unemployable. Miller wrote the play in order to criticize McCarthyism and to show how dangerous it is to allow unfounded accusations to ruin people's lives.
