How to Make a Jackass Movie

The hit MTV show Jackass also has three movies, a video game and a countless number of fans that want to imitate the stars like Bam Magera and Johnny Knoxville. While the show looks like a bunch of random acts and friends just goofing off, there is a lot of planning that goes into a Jackass production. When you create your own Jackass movie, the one thing to keep in mind is safety.

Instructions

    • 1

Watch the Jackass series or movies to get ideas for different segments and scenes. While you should not exactly replicate the scenes, you can come up with ideas based off of those scenes.

    • 2

Gather a group of friends together and decide who wants to participate in which different stunts for the movie. You can also assign positions for camera and audio.

    • 3

Visit thrift shops and costume shops to gather supplies for the movie. Random scenes in Jackass feature different people dressed up as characters or in disguises.

    • 4

Plan out different locations for the different scenes in the movie. Check with your state’s local film office to see which necessary filming permits you will need for different shooting scenes. You could be arrested or fined for videotaping in public without a permit.

    • 5

Make sure you have the proper safety gear for each scene. Simple safety gear includes helmets, padding and a First Aid kit. For elaborate stunts, have an ambulance on location if possible.

    • 6

Use high quality cameras. If the camera man cannot hold the camera steady and a tripod is unavailable, use some type of camcorder bracket to secure the footage. Even though many Jackass stunts are taped handheld, the footage does not appear too shaky on screen because it is stabilized through different methods.

    • 7

Attach wireless microphones to the stars of the film during any hidden camera gag. Otherwise the audio will not be captured and the footage will be ruined. Use a small van to house the capturing equipment so you do not have to rely on batteries and can use the van’s power instead.

    • 8

Keep the film rolling as long as possible because you never know what you could capture. You will probably end up with a lot of useful footage, but it will be worth it if you capture the perfect moment in-between.
