Audio Video Abbreviations

Audio/video technicians, film editors, music producers, videographers--they all use several features of their cameras, recording devices and editors every day. Most of these features use universal abbreviations to allow for a streamlined editing and recording experience. Learning these abbreviations can be fairly easy, as many of them are readily understood.

    • "A" stands for "audio" or "analog" (analog as opposed to digital); "AC" stands for "alternating current"; "ACC" stands for "automatic color control"; "A DUB" stands for "audio dubbing"; "AGC" stands for "automatic gain control"; "ANT" stands for "antenna"; "A-MUTE" stands for "audio mute"; "BAL" stands for "balance"; "BAT" or "BATT" stands for "battery"; "B/W" stands for "black and white"; "CCD" stands for "charge coupled device"; "CINEM" stands for "cinema"; "CSW" stands for "cassette switch"; "D" stands for "digital" or "delay"; "DM" stands for "drum motor"; "DSP" stands for "digital signal process."
