A film industry Director of Development is responsible for working with corporations and individuals to provide financial support through donations, grants and sponsorships. They also work with partners to help put together workshops and special events at festivals and other industry functions.
Directors of Development typically have a track record in fund-raising at a senior level, particularly with non-profit organizations. They are expected to have strong contacts within the local business community along with the film industry.
Some major film festivals will have full-time Directors of Development working on staff; other smaller film festivals, like the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival, rely on volunteer help to fill their development needs. Development Directors are also expected to be involved in the long-term financial planning of an organization.
