Where did tony award originate?

The Tony Awards originate from the American Theatre Wing, a non-profit organization founded in 1919. The awards were first presented in 1947 and were originally known as the Antoinette Perry Awards, after the organization's founder. The name was changed to the Tony Awards in 1967.
