How did Skrillex get famous?

Sonny Moore began his career as the lead vocalist of From First to Last, a post-hardcore band. He left the band in 2007 and began working on electronic music under the name Skrillex. He gained popularity through his remixes of songs by artists such as Lady Gaga, Benny Benassi, and The All-American Rejects. His remix of Benassi's "Cinema" won a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2011.

Skrillex's debut studio album, "Recess", was released in 2014 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and spawned the singles "Bangarang", "Breakn' a Sweat", and "Red Lips".

In 2015, Skrillex was named the world's highest-paid DJ by Forbes magazine. He earned an estimated $17 million from June 2014 to June 2015.
