Pempengco's big break came in 2006, when she was cast in the role of "Nora Clark" in the dance film "Step Up". The film was a commercial success, grossing over $114 million worldwide. Pempengco's performance in the film was critically acclaimed, and she was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for "Best Breakthrough Performance".
Following the success of "Step Up", Pempengco starred in several other films and television shows, including "Bring It On: In It to Win It" (2007), "The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers" (2008), and "American Dreams" (2008). She also appeared in the music videos for "Umbrella" by Rihanna and "Disturbia" by Rhianna.
