What is a off-Broadway theater award?

The Off-Broadway Alliance, established in 2002, gives out the prestigious Off-Broadway Theatre Awards. The Alliance, made up of more than 180 Off-Broadway producers and theatre professionals, works to raise awareness of and advance Off-Broadway theatre.

To be eligible for an Off-Broadway Theatre Award, a production must have had at least 25 performances at an Off-Broadway venue during the previous year. The awards are presented annually in a variety of categories, including Best Play, Best Musical, Best Director, and Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The Off-Broadway Theatre Awards are considered to be a major honor in the New York City theatre scene. They provide an opportunity for Off-Broadway productions to be recognized for their artistic excellence and contributions to the theatre community.
