Why did Humphry Davy invent the arc lamp?

Humphry Davy did not invent the first electrical arc lamp. Sir Humphry Davy did demonstrate his own arc lamp invention in 1802 though, a couple years after the invention and first demonstration of an electrical arc lamp by the Royal Society of London in 1800.
