How to Levitate a Toothpick
Levitation is one of the oldest tricks in the magicians book. In its most basic form, levitation sees a person or object lifted off a surface without physical aid. Famous magicians such as David Copperfield, Criss Angel and David Blaine have all included the illusion of levitation in their shows due to its ability to leave even the most skeptical audience member with their jaw to the floor. Levitating small objects is made simple by a gimmick called the magicians loop. The magicians loop is a piece of invisible, elasticized string that can be stretched between the hands of a magician to balance small objects in midair and give the illusion of levitation.

1
Wrap one of your loops gently around your left hand so it sits between your thumb and your forefinger.
-
2
Stretch the loop from the right hand side of your left hand and wrap it around the middle finger of your right hand. Try to do this move discreetly. The loop should now be connecting your left and your right hand in a horizontal line.

3
Gently balance the toothpick across the line between your left and right hand. Keep your hands as close as possible to ensure the loop doesn't stretch too far and break.
-
4
Move your right hand gently to the right to display the levitation of the toothpick.

5
Bring your hands together quickly to end the levitation.
